I walked into the Crucible Project weekend in January of 2023 feeling defective. Not dramatically. Just quietly, persistently broken in some place I could not name — like a bone that had healed wrong and ached in cold weather. I did not know what was about to happen to me. I came out three days later with the beginning of something I had never quite had: an honest reckoning with who I had been, and the first glimpse of who I could become.

Three and a half years later, I am still an apprentice. Still in process. Still being made into something I am not yet. The second half of my life is more purposeful, more costly, and more alive than anything I managed to produce in all those years of performing. That is not my achievement. That is what happens when you finally stop running and let the Original Outlaw catch you.
